'This election might be my last,' says Fakhrul, promises proper roles for those denied nominations
'I will share the stories another day, if Allah wills,' he says recalling the uncertainty and personal challenges he faced after his return to politics in 1987
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, nominated to contest the upcoming election from Thakurgaon-1, has said this election might be the last one he participates in, assuring those who did not get nominations that they will be given due responsibilities and honour in the party.
"By the grace of Almighty Allah, the BNP has nominated me for Thakurgaon-1! I am grateful to Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and all our leaders," reads a statement posted on his verified Facebook page today (4 November).
Fakhrul wrote, "This election might be my last election. To those who did not receive a nomination, have faith; the party will assign you appropriate responsibilities and honour."
The BNP named its candidates for 237 constituencies at a press briefing in Gulshan yesterday afternoon.
Fakhrul also extended his thanks to every party worker who has stood by him throughout his political journey.
"We who have spent our lives in politics and faced imprisonment have our own stories, many unknown to the public," the BNP leader wrote.
Reflecting on his return to politics in 1987, he recalled the uncertainty and personal challenges he faced, including managing family responsibilities with young daughters while reentering the political arena.
"I will share the stories another day, if Allah wills. Thousands of our leaders and workers have similar stories."
He went on to say, "We will stand together and work together, Insha'Allah. The BNP has the ability to lead the country forward with dignity."
