Lazz Pharma fined Tk5 lakh for selling counterfeit meds in Khulna
The specific anti-itch drug had been sold for a long time

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) today (August 18) fined Lazz Pharma Tk5 lakh for marketing and selling counterfeit medicines in Khulna.
A DNCRP team, led by its Khulna Deputy Director Md Selim, conducted a raid at Lazz Pharma's outlet located at the Royal intersection this afternoon.
This was confirmed through a press release issued by the Khulna DNCRP, stating that the operation revealed that the pharmacy brand had been promoting and selling an anti-itch drug that was falsely branded as an imported product from the Philippines.
According to the outlet's manager, the DNCRP conducted a raid on the pharmacy's Sonadanga branch in May, where it was also fined for a similar offense.
That raid uncovered that Lazz Pharma was marketing and selling medicine from a fraudulent company named Adorabella Health Care, falsely branding it as an imported product from the Philippines.
The specific anti-itch drug had been sold for a long time.
The counterfeit medicine supply ring was brought to the location and was then fined.
Meanwhile, DNCRP's Md Selim said, "An organised syndicate has been supplying counterfeit and fake medicine in Khulna for a long time," he said. "Based on evidence, Lazz Pharma was fined in today's operation."
Investigations found that the medicine was actually manufactured by a fraudulent company based in Jhenaidah.
Following the seizure, the DNCRP imposed the fine and warned of further legal consequences if such malpractice continued.
The penalties were imposed under different sections of the Consumer Rights Protection Act: Tk2 lakh under Section 41, Tk2 lakh under Section 44, and Tk1 lakh under Section 50, the release added.
