DU provost rescued amid clash between Chhatra Dal, Shibir
Earlier in the evening, Shibir, Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), Hall Students’ Union leaders and some students had kept the provost’s office occupied, demanding the resignation of Hall Provost Professor Dr Ilias Al-Mamun.
A clash broke out between leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Dal and Shibir and leaders of the Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall Students' Union as Chhatra Dal activists tried to take the hall provost out of his office at Dhaka University.
The incident occurred at around 2:45am today (17 August). Several people, including Hall Students' Union Vice-President (VP) Abu Naim and General Secretary (GS) Imam ul Hasan, were reportedly injured.
Earlier in the evening, Shibir, Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu), Hall Students' Union leaders and some students had kept the provost's office occupied, demanding the resignation of Hall Provost Professor Dr Ilias Al-Mamun.

They alleged that a student had been detained and tortured inside the provost's room.
Witnesses said Dhaka University Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Mohammad Almujaddade Alfasane, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Abdus Salam, Acting Proctor Professor Israfil Prang and several assistant proctors went to the hall at night to control the situation and take the provost out of his office.
At one point, Hall Students' Union, Shibir and Ducsu leaders also confined them inside the provost's office.
Later, the two pro-vice-chancellors left the office. Acting Proctor Professor Israfil Prang remained at the gate of the provost's office with Hall Students' Union VP Abu Naim, GS Imam ul Hasan and several students.
When Chhatra Dal leaders and activists tried to take the proctor and provost out, a scuffle broke out with Shibir and Hall Students' Union leaders and activists.
During the incident, Acting Proctor Israfil Prang was pushed and fell against a pillar.
Later, a group of Chhatra Dal leaders and activists took the proctor and provost out of the office, after which the situation returned to normal.
Speaking to the media, Chhatra Dal Office Secretary Mallik Wasi Tami said Shibir leaders and activists from other halls had gathered there.
He said Chhatra Dal leaders and activists went to the hall after a video of the VP and GS went viral.
