Ctg store fined Tk2 lakh for falsely labelling locally made panjabis as Indian

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined a store in Chattogram Tk2 lakh for misleading customers by falsely labelling locally made panjabis as Indian and selling them at inflated prices.
During a routine inspection in Riazuddin Bazar today (15 March), DNCRP officials discovered that the store named 'Selim Panjabi Museum' was misbranding Bangladeshi-made Panjabis with Indian tags to deceive customers, reads a press release.
Additionally, the store failed to produce valid purchase vouchers for the so-called imported products. When confronted, the business admitted to its deceptive practices.
The operation was conducted by Deputy Director Fayez Ullah, along with Assistant Directors Md. Anisur Rahman, Rana Debnath, Mahmudah Akter, and Cameraman Md Aftabuzzaman.
Consumer rights officials have strongly condemned such fraudulent activities, warning that such misleading advertisements and price manipulation violate consumer protection laws. The crackdown aims to protect customers from unfair trade practices and ensure market transparency.
Alongside Selim Panjabi Museum, another store, Poristhan, was fined Tk1 lakh for similar offenses. Additionally, Purabi Foods & Biryani was penalised Tk10,000 for unhygienic food preparation and selling expired dairy products.
Authorities have assured that regular monitoring will continue to curb fraudulent business practices and safeguard consumer rights in Bangladesh.
