Bank Asia leads loan disbursement for marginal clients in Chapainawabganj

Bank Asia PLC, under the refinancing scheme of Bangladesh Bank, has led an Open Loan Disbursement Programme targeting marginal and underbanked customers in Chapainawabganj. The initiative was part of the Tk 750 crore revolving fund aimed at providing access to finance for marginal and landless farmers, low-income professionals, school banking account holders, and small entrepreneurs with minimal deposits (Tk 10/50/100 accounts).

Held at the Town Club Hall in Chapainawabganj, the event brought together all scheduled banks operating in the district. Bank Asia served as the lead organiser.

Dr Md Habibur Rahman, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, attended as chief guest. Special guests included Mr Rup Ratan Pine, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, and Mr Md Iqbal Mohasin, Director of the Financial Inclusion Department at Bangladesh Bank. The programme was presided over by Mr ANM Mahfuz, Managing Director (Current Charge) of Bank Asia PLC.

A total of Tk 2.75 crore in loans was disbursed among 221 customers during the event. Of this, Bank Asia alone distributed Tk 69 lakh in loans to 116 recipients. These loans are expected to empower marginal entrepreneurs to scale their operations or launch new ventures, thereby promoting financial inclusion and economic empowerment at the grassroots level.

Programmes like this play a crucial role in fostering a culture of financial literacy and inclusion, while also enhancing public confidence in the formal banking sector.
