BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has demanded that those responsible for today's attack on employees at the Dhaka South City Corporation's office, Nagar Bhaban, be brought to justice without delay.
Speaking to reporters this afternoon (24 June) after visiting the injured at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Ishraque, the mayor-elect of Dhaka South, alleged that "outsiders" chanting slogans in his name launched a planned assault on Nagar Bhaban staff.
He specifically named Rubel, a city corporation official, and Arifuzzaman Prince, a staff member, as leading the attack, calling them "henchmen of tyranny."
The BNP leader accused them of exploiting the party's name for personal gain and claimed that they had also benefited during the tenures of former mayors Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Sayeed Khokon.
"There is also a link with the LGRD adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan. This attack was not spontaneous — it was a premeditated act," Ishraque alleged.
Earlier in the noon, a clash erupted between two rival factions of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Karmachari Union at the Dhaka South's office, Nagar Bhaban.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Mansur confirmed the incident, stating that four to five individuals were injured during the altercation.
"The exact cause of the clash has not been determined yet, and no formal complaint has been lodged," the OC added.
