He had allegedly attacked his dormitory roommate, following an altercation over a trivial matter

A Dhaka court has granted bail to Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) independent vice president (VP) candidate Jalal Ahmed, popularly known as who is also known as "Jalamoyee Jalal," in a case filed over the attempted murder of his roommate at a Dhaka University (DU) dormitory.
Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman passed the order following a hearing today (1 September).
During the bail hearing, Jalal's lawyer Rafiqul Islam argued that his client was completely innocent and had been falsely implicated to harass him. He stressed that no concrete evidence had been presented against Jalal and he was not even present at the scene of the alleged incident.
The lawyer also pointed out that Jalal is scheduled to sit for the BCS examination on 19 September, urging the court to grant bail. The prosecution opposed the bail plea.
After hearing both sides, the court granted bail on a bond of Tk5,000, with the condition that Jalal must produce his exam routine or admit card.
According to the case document, around 12:30am on 26 August, Jalal disturbed his roommate Md Rabiul Haque by dragging chairs and turning on lights. When Rabiul requested him to lower the noise, Jalal became agitated and attacked him with a wooden chair, injuring his forehead.
He then struck Rabiul with an old fluorescent tube, which broke and caused further injuries to his chest and hand.
Fellow students rescued the injured and admitted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Following the incident, DU authorities expelled Jalal from the dormitory and handed him over to the police.
Later on 27 August, the university authorities filed an attempted murder case against Jalal with Shahbagh Police Station, said the station's OC Khalid Monsur.
The next day his bail petition was rejected, leading to his imprisonment. He has remained in custody since then.
