5 arrested over attack on police during clash at Nural Pagla's shrine in Rajbari
Five people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in an attack on police during a violent clash at the shrine of Nural Haque, popularly known as Nural Pagla, in Goalanda, Rajbari.
The arrests were made during overnight raids across the upazila, Goalanda Ghat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Rakibul Islam said today (7 September).
According to the OC, after Friday prayers, a group calling themselves Tawhidi Janata held a protest rally. The group then attacked the Nural Pagla shrine, prompting followers of Nural Pagla to fight back. The clash left one person dead and more than a hundred injured.
The situation escalated when members of Tawhidi Janata reportedly stormed the shrine and set parts of it on fire. Police intervened to control the situation but were attacked, and police vehicles were vandalised.
A case was filed by Sub-Inspector Selim of Goalanda Ghat police station following the attack.
So far, five suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the incidents. The investigation is ongoing, Rakibul added.
