Chhatra Dal protests for 7 hours at Shahbagh seeking justice for Shammo's murder
The JCD president announced the conclusion of the day’s sit-in programme around 5pm

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) ended its seven-hour sit-in protest at the Shahbagh and Hotel InterContinental intersections this evening (22 May), demanding justice for the killing of their fellow leader, Shahriar Alam Shammo.
The demonstration, which began around 10am, disrupted traffic in key areas of the capital as over a hundred JCD leaders and activists occupied both intersections, according to media reports.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Mansur told TBS that vehicular movement in the areas remained almost halted throughout the day due to their protest.
The protest was led by JCD Central President Rakibul Islam at Shahbagh and General Secretary Nasir Uddin at the InterContinental side. The JCD president announced the conclusion of the day's sit-in programme around 5pm.
Speaking during the protest, Rakibul Islam expressed frustration over the lack of visible progress in the investigation into Shammo's death.
"We have not seen any promises or progress regarding the trial of Shammo's killing. The administration is playing hide and seek with us," he said.
In a statement published on Wednesday, the Dhaka University administration informed about detaining three individuals suspecting them to being involved in Shammo's killing.
Asked about the statement, Rakibul said, "The university administration has failed to disclose the identities of the three detainees. We think the university administration is still in doubt. They could not say anything clearly about the accused."
JCD had earlier announced the protest programme through a statement on Wednesday, reiterating their demand for the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of Shammo's killers.
