DU students protest police assault, demand removal of Ramna DC Masud
“The character of the police remains unchanged. Their uniforms have changed, but their authoritarian behaviour has not,” said one of the protesters.
Students of Dhaka University today (24 February) staged a protest in front of Shahbagh Police Station demanding the removal of Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Masud Alam.
The hour-long protest began around 3pm, with students demanding the police official's removal over alleged use of force on journalists and students of Dhaka University during an anti-narcotics drive at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital last night (23 February).
At around 3:45pm, several protesting DU students entered Shahbagh Police Station to speak with police officials, reports BBC Bangla.
One of the protesters said, "A decision will be announced after the talks."
The student added, "The character of the police remains unchanged. Their uniforms have changed, but their authoritarian behaviour has not."
Attempts to contact the officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station for comment were unsuccessful as he did not answer calls.
