Sabbir Mohammad Selim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Zorarganj Police Station confirmed the arrest, stating, "Shawkat Akbar has been arrested in connection with a case filed for extortion and assault at a factory in the economic zone."

He has been sent to court, said the OC, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest the other accused individuals.

According to police sources, a case was filed this morning at Zorarganj Police Station by Md Kamrul Hossain, director of Bangladesh Auto Industries Limited, the company targeted in the incident.

The case accuses Sohag and 11 others, along with 8-10 unidentified individuals.

The complaint states that on Monday afternoon, a group of 10–12 individuals, led by Sohag and riding on 8–10 motorcycles, stormed the construction site of Bangladesh Auto Industries Limited in the Ichakhali area.

They allegedly demanded Tk20 lakh in extortion from the factory's general manager, Hasibul Hasan. When they refused to pay the extortion, an altercation broke out between the group and factory officials, including project manager Abdus Samad. The attackers then physically assaulted officials and workers at the site.
