Teenager arrested for Shewrapara double murder
Police arrested him from Jhalakathi

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested a teenager in connection with the brutal murder of two sisters in the capital's Shewrapara area and recovered key evidence.
At a press conference held at the DMP Media Centre yesterday, DB Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam said the 14-year-old accused is the victims' nephew.
The victims, Mariam Begum and her sister Sufia Begum, were killed at their rented apartment around 12:50pm on Friday.
Mariam's daughter later filed a murder case with Mirpur Police Station. Following the case filing, detectives used surveillance, intelligence, and technology to trace the location of the accused. He was arrested early Sunday from his maternal grandfather's home in Jhalakathi Sadar.
Based on his confession, police recovered key evidence, including a blood-stained blue T-shirt, two pairs of jeans, and a pair of shoes. The youth later gave a confessional statement in court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
According to police, he visited his aunt Mariam's home that day. While she was attending to him and Sufia was washing dishes on the veranda, he stole Tk3,000 from a wallet to buy a second-hand bicycle.
When Mariam caught him, she scolded him and threatened to inform his mother. As she searched for her phone, he grabbed a fruit knife from the dining table and stabbed her in the stomach. As she tried to resist, he stabbed her again.
Hearing the commotion, Sufia rushed in and attempted to intervene. The boy then stabbed her once in the stomach, causing her to collapse. He then fetched a grinding stone from the kitchen and struck both women on the head multiple times.
Police added that after the attack, the boy washed the blood from his hands and face, changed out of his blood-stained clothes, and wore a pair of jeans belonging to his cousin, along with a colourful T-shirt and cap. He locked the door from outside, took the key, and left for Shanir Akhra in a CNG autorickshaw.
