The motorcycle and machete used in the mugging have also been seized during his arrest

Police have arrested a man over the mugging of a young woman at the capital's West Shewrapara yesterday (17 April) by threatening her with a machete and snatching her gold chain and bag.
The suspect, identified as Imran Khan Shakib, was arrested last night, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Deputy Commissioner (DC-Mirpur Division) Maksudur Rahman.
The motorcycle and machete used in the mugging were also seized during his arrest, he said.
DC Maksudur said, "The arrestee Shakib is a professional mugger. We identified him from the CCTV camera footage and later tracked his location using technology."
According to the Mirpur Model Police Station, the incident occurred around 4:24am yesterday (17 April), when victim Angyajai Marma and her cousin were returning home in West Shewrapara after getting off a Shanti Paribahan bus.
As their rickshaw reached Mannan Sarani, Imran Khan Sakib and two accomplices approached them on a motorcycle and threatened them with a sharp machete.
The attackers forcibly snatched a wallet from Angyajai Marma — containing Tk2,500 in cash, three credit cards, a national ID card, a metro card, and other important documents and a silver chain from her cousin's neck before fleeing the scene.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, drawing the attention of the Mirpur Model Police Station. Officers later contacted the victim and assured her of necessary legal support.
Based on Angyajai Marma's complaint, a case was filed with the police station on 17 April.
Police said during the investigation, CCTV footage from the crime scene and technological surveillance helped identify the suspects. A raid was then conducted in Gazipur, leading to Shakib's arrest.
During the arrest, police recovered the motorcycle used in the mugging and Tk2,500 in cash.
Following Shakil's statement, a sharp machete used in the robbery was recovered from the roof of a furniture workshop near Babahuzur Mosque in East Monipur under Mirpur Model Police Station.
Police sources confirmed that Shakil is a professional criminal with multiple cases of robbery, theft, and drug offences filed against him across several DMP stations, including Mirpur.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman said, "Legal action against the arrestee is underway. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining two individuals involved in the robbery."
