Welcoming the interim government's decision to ban the Awami League, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam said the NCP wants implementation as soon as possible.

"We must continue our movement on the July Declaration and the issue of justice. Fascist mass murderers from all over the country must be identified and brought to justice as soon as possible," he said in a statement today (10 May).

"The Election Commission must cancel the registration of the banned fascist Awami League as soon as possible."

Nahid's statement comes as the Advisory Council of the interim government has decided to ban the Awami League under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Amid growing protests seeking the ban, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul made the announcement at a press conference after a meeting of the Advisory Council chaired by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
