Two security guards, who sustained burn injuries in a textile mill fire in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj last week, died at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Hannan, 50, son of Md Shafik of Laxmipur district and Kabir Hossain, 45, son of Rafique of Narayanganj district.

Resident Surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman said both Hannan and Kabir succumbed to their injuries at the hospital in the morning.

Kabir suffered 53% burn injuries and died at the hospital around 9:30 am at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. Hannan, who received 40% injuries, died at the ICU around 2:40 am, said Dr Shawon.

On 1 May, four workers were injured when a fire broke out at the mill following an explosion caused by high pressure of gas though the factory was closed on the occasion of May Day, said deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Abdullah Al Arefin.

Among the injured, Saiful Islam, 32, has been undergoing treatment at the burn unit with 34% burn injuries.

Liakat Ali, officer-in-charge of Rupganj Police Station, said a general diary has been lodged with the police station on Monday but no complaint was filed yet.
