Major reshuffle in Army: Principal staff officer, DGFI chief changed
New chief of general staff appointed
The Bangladesh Army has carried out a significant reshuffle of its senior leadership, appointing a new chief of general staff (CGS), principal staff officer (PSO) and chief of military intelligence, according to defence ministry sources.
An order to this effect was issued from Army Headquarters today (22 February), the sources said.
Maj Gen Mir Mushfiqur Rahman, general officer commanding of the 24 Infantry Division in Chattogram, has been promoted to lieutenant general and appointed principal staff officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division.
He succeeds Lt Gen SM Kamrul Hasan, who had been serving as the PSO of the AFD since 22 August 2024, and has now been assigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an ambassador.
Brig Gen Kaiser Rashid of the Military Operations and Quartering (M&Q) Directorate has been promoted to the rank of major general and appointed as the new director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
He replaces Maj Gen Mohammad Jahangir Alam, who had been serving as DGFI chief and has now been assigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an ambassador.
Meanwhile, Lt Gen Md Mainur Rahman, previously serving at the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC), has been appointed chief of general staff (CGS) at Army Headquarters.
The reshuffle also includes changes at divisional and regimental levels.
Maj Gen JM Emdadul Islam of the 55 Infantry Division has been appointed commandant of the East Bengal Regimental Centre (EBRC). Maj Gen Ferdous Hasan Selim, who had been serving at the EBRC, has been appointed GOC of the 24 Infantry Division.
Brig Gen Md Hafizur Rahman, who was serving as defence adviser at the Bangladesh High Commission in India, has been promoted to major general and appointed GOC of the 55 Infantry Division.
