Bangladesh's women's cricket team have slipped to 10th place in the ICC's latest T20I rankings, falling behind Ireland following a dismal run of results across the past two years.
The annual update, released by the ICC on 2 May, confirmed the status quo at the top, with Australia, England, India and New Zealand holding on to the top four positions. But it was at the lower end of the top ten where movement occurred — Ireland climbed to 9th, overtaking Bangladesh, who continue to pay the price for their inconsistency in the shortest format.
The rankings revision took into account performances from may 2022 to april 2024, giving 50 percent weight to older results and full value to recent matches. During that period, Bangladesh played nine bilateral T20I series, managing victory in just one — a 2-1 win over Pakistan. They drew one against South Africa, but lost the remaining seven.

Among those defeats, a particularly damaging one came in december 2023 when Ireland whitewashed them 3-0 on Bangladeshi soil — a result that now looks decisive in the rankings shuffle. The signs had been clear then, but the long-term impact is now confirmed.
Bangladesh's woes deepened during their historic tour of the West Indies in early 2024. It marked their first visit to the Caribbean, but ended in disappointment as they suffered whitewashes in both the ODI and T20I series.
While the team did manage to qualify for the upcoming Women's ODI World Cup through the global qualifier in april, their T20 form remains a serious concern. In that qualifier, they finished second behind hosts Pakistan — just enough to secure the final ticket.
