Taijul’s early blow wraps up Zimbabwe innings at 227

Zimbabwe appeared in control during the first two sessions of the opening day, but a dramatic collapse in the final session saw them stumble from 177 for 2 to 227 for 9 by stumps. Taijul Islam played a starring role, claiming five wickets to derail the visitors' innings.

Resuming on 29 April 2025, Bangladesh's focus was on wrapping up Zimbabwe's first innings as swiftly as possible. Taijul wasted no time, striking with the very first delivery of the morning to dismiss Blessing Muzarabani. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 227, with Taijul completing a superb bowling performance, finishing with figures of 6 for 60.

Play resumed in Chattogram with Bangladesh beginning their first innings in response to Zimbabwe's 227. The hosts introduced a new opening pair as Shadman Islam walked out alongside Anamul Haque. Richard Ngarava took the new ball for Zimbabwe with an attacking field—three slips and a gully in place.

Shadman took strike to face the first delivery. At the time of writing, Bangladesh had reached 9 without loss after 2.4 overs, making a cautious but composed start to their reply in the second Test.
