'Extortion threats': Mohammadpur businessman's residence shot at twice within a month

In a span of just one month, unidentified individuals have opened fire twice at the residence of a real estate businessman in the capital's Mohammadpur.
The latest incident occurred at noon today (28 April) at the house on Sher Shah Suri Road.
Earlier, on the evening of 24 March, miscreants had also fired shots in front of the same house's gate.
Monirul Islam, the businessman, claimed that he had received extortion threats in the name of a top criminal figure. He suspects the attacks may be linked to his refusal to pay the demanded money.
Speaking on the matter, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Md Ibne Mizan said, "We are aware of the incident. Law enforcement agencies, including the police, have already begun investigating. We hope to arrest the culprits soon."
CCTV footage shows two men arriving at around 2:20pm today on a motorcycle, both wearing helmets. One of them approached the gate and, after exchanging a few words, fired a shot at the gatekeeper. The duo then fled the scene on their motorcycle.
"The bullet hit the wall near the door, creating a hole. Thankfully, no one was injured," Monirul said.
He further said, "About a month ago, someone claiming to be a follower of 'Captain Iman' demanded Tk50 lakh in extortion. However, I later learned they were not actually associated with Iman. I did not pay the money.
"On 24 March, some assailants fired shots in front of my house. A case was filed, and police managed to arrest one suspect. They are aware of the situation."
