Police have detained two staff members of a coffee shop in the Taltola area of Khilgaon in Dhaka for beating a woman with a stick.

Manager of the 'Apon Coffee House' Alamin, along with another staff Shuvo were taken into custody this afternoon, Rampura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman Akand confirmed the matter.

The identity of the young woman has yet to be confirmed, the OC said.

Since neither the woman nor her guardians could be located, the police were filing a case as the plaintiff, the OC said.

Video of the incident, which took place on 11 April, went viral on social media and sparked outrage among netizens.

In the video, some staff members were seen standing in front of the Apon Coffee House with the woman. One of them was seen trying to forcefully drive her out of the shop by grabbing her neck.

Then, another employee was seen hitting her on both legs twice with a stick.

There were allegations that the woman was harassing customers in the shop. Although, some netizens opined that it was wrong of the staffers to take the law into their own hands and assaulting the woman rather than reporting her to the nearest police station.
