Man arrested for shooting at businessman in Khilgaon demanding extortion money
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a man in connection with shooting at a businessman in the capital's Khilgaon, demanding extortion money.
The accused Tarif Hossain was arrested from the Khilgaon area yesterday (22 April), confirmed RAB-3 Staff Officer (Media) Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Sanad Barua.
He said Tarif had been demanding Tk20 lakh from Sadiqur Rahman Akand, a housing businessman in the Khilgaon area, and had been threatening to kill him if he refused to pay extortion money.
The RAB official added that on 3 April, at 5:20pm, while Sadiqur was walking in front of the Nurbagh water pump under Khilgaon Police Station, Tarif and his associate arrived on a motorcycle and fired three rounds at him.
A video shows that the shots missed the target and Sadiqur managed to run away.
Subsequently, Tarif and his associate fled the scene on the motorcycle.
Sadiqur later filed a case at Khilgaon Police Station.
The RAB official also noted that the arrestee has an arms case filed with the Rampura Police Station and another arms case along with two narcotics cases at Khilgaon Police Station.
Further legal action against him is currently underway, RAB said.
