Sharmin Shila, also known as 'Cream Apa' on social media, has been arrested in a case filed on charges of abusing her children while making contents for social media.

Ashulia Police arrested her from the Savar Upazila Parishad premises around 8:30pm tonight (10 April).

Confirming the arrest, Ashulia Police Station Inspector (investigation) Md Kamal Hossain told The Business Standard that Sharmin Shila was arrested tonight after a case was filed against her last night by Women Affairs Officer of Savar upazila Kazi Israt Zaman.

"The process of taking further legal action against her is underway," he said.

When asked who will be in charge of Sharmin Shila's children after her arrest or what decision has been made in this regard, the police officer said, "People from the Department of Social Services have come, they will make a decision in this regard."

Earlier yesterday, Kazi Israt Zaman lodged a case against Shila under Children's Act 2013 with Ashulia Police Station on allegations of abusing her children while making contents for social media.

Earlier, child abuse allegation surfaced against Sharmin after content made by her spread on social media.

After watching the contents, netizens accused Sharmin of inhumane behaviour towards her children.

On Sunday (6 April), a humanitarian organisation named 'Ekai Eksho' submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Dhaka district and demanded punishment of Sharmin.

Case filed against viral 'Cream Apa' over child abuse allegations in Ashulia

According to the case statement, Sharmin, who lives in Ashulia, is basically a beautician. She is known as "Cream Apa" and earns her living through doing makeup and selling creams produced by herself.

Sharmin makes and shares content on social media with the help of her children, the case statement said.

Around 4pm on 30 March, she uploaded a video on social media which became viral instantly. The video showed Sharmin forcing her two-year-old daughter to eat some cake-type food, while older videos showed her as verbally abusing her children, forcibly bringing them before the camera and beating them up while making videos, the case statement further said.

The case statement also said Sharmin had been abusing her children for the past one year to become viral on social media, which is inflicting physical and mental damage on the kids.
