A Bangladeshi expatriate was hacked to death amid a clash between two factions of the BNP in Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur today (7 April).

The incident took place near the newly constructed embankment by Malek Kha Bridge in Uttar Charabonsi union, said Assistant Superintendent of Police (Raipur Circle) Md Jamilul Haque.

"Two BNP factions clashed, leaving one person dead and 12-15 injured," he said.

The deceased, Saiz Uddin Dewan, 40, was a resident of Char Ghasia village of the union and a Bangladeshi expatriate in Spain.

At least 15 others were injured in the violence, though their identities have not yet been confirmed.

According to locals, the clash erupted over establishing dominance in the area between two factions. Both groups reportedly attacked each other with sharp weapons during the confrontation.

Saiz Uddin's nephew Sohag Hossain, said his uncle had been living in Spain for the past 8-10 years and was scheduled to return on 12 April.

"On his way back from his in-laws in the afternoon, he was attacked in the clash and killed," he said.

ASP Jamilul said law enforcers, including army personnel, went to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators, he added.
