A 28-year-old man has been accused of attempting to rape a 10-year-old fourth-grade girl in Chougachha of Jashore.

The incident took place around 11:30am today (16 March) in a field near their homes in a village bordering Maheshpur upazila.

According to the girl, their neighbour, Md Mithu, lured her to the field under the pretense of collecting leaves. Once there, he allegedly attempted to take her to a secluded area. When she resisted, he threatened and assaulted her.

The child said she fought back, biting his hand and screaming for help.

Hearing her cries, locals rushed to the scene, prompting Mithu to flee.

Family members later rescued the girl and took her to the Upazila Health Complex, where she received first aid.

Confirming the incident, Chougachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said the girl's family filed a complaint at the station.

He said a police team led by Inspector (Investigation) Kamal Hossain launched a drive to detain the accused.
