Confirming the incident, Ashulia Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md Kamal Hossain told reporters that CCTV footage showed when Dilip was locking up the shop, called "Dilip Shornoloy", four people hit him from behind.

"As he turned around, he was hit again. Later, those men ran away from the spot with a bag belonging to Dilip. The footage shows smoke, probably because they hurled crude bombs while fleeing."

Wife of the deceased Saraswati Das told TBS she saw three youths at the scene.

"Unable to take the bag he was carrying, they hacked him with a machete. They then snatched the bag, which had gold ornaments, from him. When we started screaming, they hurled two crude bombs and quickly fled the scene.

"There was about 20 to 25 bhori of gold in the bag. There was also some cash," added Saraswati. However, she could not say how much cash was in the bag.

Enam Medical College Hospital Emergency Medical Officer Merajur Rehan Pavel said Dilip was taken there at around 10:30pm.

"He had deep stab wounds in his chest, face and back. He died while undergoing treatment."

Police Inspector Kamal said, "We, the Dhaka District Police, including the Detective Bean, are already working seriously on the matter. We are working to bring the criminals to book."
