Fire erupts on moving bus in Ashulia
The cause of the fire could not be confirmed immediately
A fire broke out on a moving bus near the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) on the Nabinagar-Chandra Highway in Ashulia today (18 November).
The cause of the fire could not be confirmed immediately.
Md Arafatul Islam, additional superintendent of police (crime and operations) for Dhaka district, told The Business Standard that preliminary assessment suggests the fire might have started due to a mechanical fault.
The bus was carrying no passengers at the time and no casualties were reported in the incident.
The bus's driver Rezaul said he did not see anyone setting it on fire.
The bus was being used to transport workers of a garment factory.
The driver said he was heading toward DEPZ with an empty bus from the Palashbari area of Ashulia to pick up workers. As he approached the petrol pump near DEPZ, he felt heat from behind and turned to see flames inside the bus.
Pranab Chowdhury, senior station officer at the DEPZ Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, told The Business Standard that a unit was dispatched immediately after receiving an alert.
"We managed to bring the fire under control. The bus's interior seats were burnt," he added.
