BNP leader hacked to death in Lakshmipur
Locals said the assailants attacked Zahir while he was on his way home. He was struck repeatedly on the head with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured, they said.
A local BNP leader was hacked to death by assailants in Latifpur village under Chandraganj union of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila tonight (15 November).
The deceased, Abul Kalam Zahir, 50, also known as Mati Zahir, was the general secretary of the ward-4 unit of Chandraganj union BNP.
Confirming the matter, Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Faizul Azim, said, "Zahir was involved in criminal activities and drug dealing. He had longstanding internal disputes with another local gangster, 'Picchi' Kawser.
"A conflict between them escalated a few days ago over a game. Kawser's group may have carried out the attack."
