BNP will now reach out to the people and businesses: Khasru
"You cannot democratise politics but leave the economy outside it," he said
The BNP will now reach out to the people and businesses, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said today (15 November).
"We will now run to those who are facing problems, and that is why we are sitting and talking with businesspeople in every division," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting with businesspeople in Faridpur.
Speaking about changes, Khasru said, that politicians usually prefer everyone to go to them. This time, they have changed it as BNP will no longer do that. "Politics will not continue as it did before," he added.
Speaking about pursuing government projects, the former MP said, "We will no longer go for mega projects. You do not need to go to Dhaka. You will be able to work while staying in your own area."
"The BNP was created to take Bangladesh forward through the contribution of the private sector. The government creates opportunities, but it is the private sector that materialises those opportunities," he added.
He also mentioned that in the past, business and trade were concentrated in the hands of a few and we [BNP] must come out of that.
"You cannot democratise politics but leave the economy outside it," Khasru said.
Reminding people of their obligation to the economic sector of Bangladesh, he said, every citizen must have the opportunity to participate in Bangladesh's financial activities.
The benefits of the economy must reach every person in the country, not just a single group or a few Dhaka-centric or Chattogram-centric individuals, the BNP leader added.
"A level playing field must be created, an economy in which everyone can participate," he said.
Khasru further questioned the process of obtaining legal business permissions. "A country whose business or economy is strong can develop more quickly. One needs 19 permissions to run a business. It takes a businessperson six months to a year to obtain those 19 permissions. After that, will anyone come to this country to do business?"
He said that if the BNP comes to power, they have pledged to create 10 million jobs within the first 18 months.
"This is a huge target. But we have not set the target without a plan — we have already decided where those jobs will be created. We have decided to allocate 5% of GDP each to the health sector and the education sector. No one has ever taken such bold initiatives in a programme," he added.
