Two accused in a case, who were abducted allegedly by the plaintiff after being granted bail by a Gazipur court this morning (26 February, have been released from captivity.

"While leaving the court after their bail, the people of the plaintiff attacked the defendants. Some of them were injured. Later, the two brothers were beaten and taken away," Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Gazipur Sadar Metro Police Station, told The Business Standard.

The abducted individuals - Md Milon Mia, 35, and Babul Mia, 40 - are brothers from Telihati of Sreepur upazila.

"The two brothers [the accused] were later released half a kilometre away from the court premise. They were rescued and taken to the hospital," added OC Mehedi.

"Efforts are being made to identify those involved in the incident. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received in this regard," the OC also said.

The chaos unfolded after the two defendants were attacked by the plaintiff and his associates, according to officials and eyewitnesses.

At least 15 people were injured in the incident.

The incident occurred around 11:30am in front of the Gazipur District Lawyers Association office.

Gazipur Lawyers Association General Secretary Sirajul Islam said, "Thirteen defendants appeared in court seeking permanent bail. After the court granted their request, they were attacked by the plaintiff, SM Nazmul Haque, and his armed supporters."

He said the attackers assaulted the defendants and two Lawyers Association employees who attempted to intervene.

Witnesses said the plaintiff's group forcibly abducted Milon and Babul amidst the commotion, causing widespread panic among lawyers and court attendees.

Sirajul also alleged that CCTV footage showed two police officers present during the assault, but they did not intervene.

Gazipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan said they received reports of several injuries in an attack in the court premises.

He added that further legal action would be taken upon receiving a formal complaint.

Meanwhile, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim issued a strong warning against the attackers.

"Those involved in the attack in the court area are not ordinary people, they are terrorists. The incident that took place in the court is concerning. It is a threat to the state. The police are working on this. Those involved in the incident will not be spared," he said.
