JaPa office in Khulna attacked; 20 injured in police action
Protesters broke the office signboard at the main gate before being dispersed by police

The Jatiyo Party (JaPa) district office in Khulna was vandalised by a group of people after a procession by Gono Odhikar Parishad activists this afternoon (30 August).
The incident occurred around 5pm at Dakbanglo intersection in the district town.
Though police prevented the marchers from entering the premises. Protesters broke the office signboard at the main gate before being dispersed by police.
Gono Odhikar Parishad claimed that 15-20 of their leaders and activists were injured during the police action.
Jatiyo Party Khulna district Joint General Secretary Shahjahan Ali Saju said, "We were in the office all day. When we went to the nearby mosque for Asr prayers, a procession of 50-60 people appeared, took a violent position in front of the office, and tried to break the gate, throwing bricks and stones. They broke one gate and the signboard. Police later charged batons and dispersed them."
Witnesses described a chase between police and protesters, during which tyres were set on fire and slogans were chanted.
SK Rashed, central assistant secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, said, "When we approached the Jatiyo Party office, their leaders, activists, and police attacked us. Around 15-20 activists were injured and admitted to hospitals. We were protesting the attack on Nurul Haque Nur."
Khulna Sadar Police Station OC Hawlader Sanwar Hussain Masum said, "Some leaders and activists came with sticks and tried to create chaos. Police dispersed them. The office signboard was broken. The situation is calm now."
