Govt renames four highways, eight bridges, removing Sheikh family honorifics
The Dhaka-Mawa Highway, formerly the "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway," has been renamed "Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway"

The government has renamed four highways and eight bridges, the Road Transport and Highways Division announced in a notice today (24 February).
The Dhaka-Mawa Highway, previously called "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway," has been renamed "Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway."
Similarly, "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Highway" in Sylhet is now "Airport Bypass Intersection-Lalbagh-Salutikar-Companiganj-Bholaganj National Highway."
The "Sheikh Hasina Highway" from Madaripur to Shariatpur has been renamed "Kazirtek Bridge-Shariatpur Highway," while "Sheikh Hasina Sarani" in Chattogram is now "Borotokia (Abu Torab)-Mirsarai Economic Zone Connecting Road."
Among the renamed bridges, "Wazed Mia Bridge" in Pirganj has been changed to "Kachdaho Bridge."
In Patuakhali, "Sheikh Kamal Bridge" over the Andarmanik River, "Sheikh Jamal Bridge" over the Sonatala River, and "Sheikh Russell Bridge" over the Khaprabhanga River have been renamed "Andar Manik Bridge," "Sonatala Bridge," and "Khaprabhanga Bridge," respectively.
In Pirojpur, "Shaheed Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Bridge" over the Baleshwar River has been renamed "Indurkani Bridge," while "Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge" over the Kacha River is now "Bekutia Bridge."
Additionally, the second bridge over the Shitalakshya River in Narayanganj, previously named "Sultana Kamal Bridge," has been renamed "Demra Bridge."
"Shaheed Abdur Rab Serniabad Bridge" in Barishal is now called "Dapdapia Bridge."
