BGB's firm stance forced India to halt border fence construction: Home adviser

Bangladesh has halted India's construction of fencing in several zero-line areas along the Bangladesh-India border.
"Bangladesh did it as it's a violation of international law," Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today (12 January).

Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on border issues, the adviser said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed about the situation.
"They will summon the Indian High Commissioner within a couple of days to address the matter," he said.
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has taken a firm stance to prevent such construction, already halting fencing in five locations, including Chapainawabganj, Nagaon and Dahagram in Lalmonirhat, the adviser added.
Referring to previous border agreements, he said that four deals signed by the previous government will be reviewed.
"The previous government let India to perform some unequal activities at the border from 2010 to 2023. India should not have done so, but the previous government gave them the opportunity," the adviser said.
"The previous government had signed four agreements regarding the border situation. The interim government will review all of them," the adviser added.
When asked about the law and order situation of the country, the adviser said small incidents are being shown as big events due to the high amount of media outlets.
"Whenever something happens at somewhere, it spreads quickly. But the law and order situation has not deteriorated much," the adviser also said.
