West Bengal govt transfers 1,024 acres to BSF for India-Bangladesh border fencing: Suvendu
The land, located in nine West Bengal districts bordering Bangladesh, has been handed over to facilitate border fencing, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari says.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has said his government has handed over 1,024.75 acres of land in nine districts bordering Bangladesh to the Border Security Force (BSF) to facilitate border fencing.
"As of today, a total of 1,024.75 acres of land spanning 172.6km has been formally handed over for this purpose," Suvendu wrote on his social media handle.
According to the district-wise breakdown shared by Suvendu, India's Murshidabad accounts for the largest share of the transferred land, with 337 acres covering 45.4km, followed by North 24 Parganas with 241.03 acres spanning 42.07km.
The remaining land has been transferred in India's Cooch Behar (135.33 acres covering 39.39km), Malda (176.78 acres covering 20.15km), Nadia (95.11 acres covering 14.79km), Dakshin Dinajpur (26.41 acres covering 7.75km), Darjeeling (4.31 acres covering 1.45km), Uttar Dinajpur (6.61 acres covering 1.28km) and Jalpaiguri (2.17 acres covering 0.31km).
Suvendu mentioned his government remained "steadfast" in its resolve to complete the projects and ensure a safer and more secure environment for citizens.
"Strengthening our borders is a top priority for our government. In our commitment to securing the India-Bangladesh border, we have expedited the land transfer process to the BSF for the construction of essential fencing," he added.
