The story behind Segafredo's arrival in Chattogram began almost nine years ago when Raisul Uddin Saikat, chairman of the Albion Group, visited a Segafredo café in Germany during a European trip.

The ambience and the taste of authentic Italian coffee left such a strong impression that Saikat made a vow to bring the Segafredo brand to his hometown.

"I took it as a challenge. Whatever it took, I was determined to bring the franchise to Chattogram," he recalled.

After years of persistent communication with the franchise owners, and an investment of over Tk6.8 crore, his dream came true.

In 2019, Segafredo Zanetti Espresso, a globally recognised Italian coffee brand, opened its doors in Chattogram.

"I thought they would not agree, but I persisted. At times, their email responses would take two to two-and-a-half months. Finally, in 2018, Segafredo Zanetti representatives visited the proposed location, learned about me, and decided to grant the franchise," Saikat said.

With their full support, Segafredo was established in the east Nasirabad area of Chattogram.

The café's stunning architectural design combines a Western fusion of bar and restaurant styles.

The Segafredo Zanetti brand was founded by Massimo Zanetti, an Italian coffee merchant with over two generations of experience in the coffee business. The first Segafredo café opened in Paris in 1988.

One distinctive feature of Segafredo outlets worldwide is their location on the ground floor, and with over 400 locations, this global chain has a solid presence worldwide.

New additions to Segafredo's menu

Segafredo offers an extensive selection of beverages, with 48 types of coffee and 55 beverage items, making it home to one of the largest coffee collections in Chattogram.

"This diverse selection, sourced directly from Italy, offers coffee lovers in Chattogram a premium experience," said the restaurant's management.

The coffee menu includes staples like Espresso, Americano, and Cappuccino, as well as unique items such as Marocchino, Vanilla Kiss Latte, and Mayan Mocha.

Prices for these beverages range from Tk160 to Tk520, reflecting the cost of imported ingredients.

This year, Segafredo introduced 15 new menu items, including new starters such as Chicken Crunch.

Other popular options include grilled calamari, fish and chips, chilli cheese fries with the option of chicken or beef, fried chicken wings, lemon pepper wings, and prawn tempura.

In the soup section, a notable new item is short rib soup, alongside favourites like seafood soup, creamy mushroom soup, and seafood chowder.

The noodles section now features chilli garlic hakka noodles and pad Thai noodles. The chicken club sandwich remains the top pick in the burger and sandwich category, while beef and butter pizza is the latest addition to the pizza menu.

For pasta lovers, new dishes include spicy cajun chicken pasta and seafood marinara pasta, joining the well-loved creamy pasta and prawn linguine pasta.

The Arabic menu has also expanded with authentic dishes like Arabic khabsa rice with lamb leg, served with creamy chicken, beef kebabs, and tomato grip. Another addition is the smoky fish kebab, featuring boneless seafood.

In the steak section, the new porterhouse steak comes with mashed potatoes, sautéed vegetables, grilled corn, and tomato with pepper sauce.

Other steak options include rump steak with lemongrass potatoes and shiitake mushrooms, short rib steak with lemon butter rice, and prime rib steak served with mashed potatoes, sautéed vegetables, and avocado sauce. Classic favourites like rib-eye, t-bone, and tomahawk steak are also on offer.

The set meal section has welcomed new dishes such as honey lime chicken, sliced chicken breast, beef Bistek Tagalog, and crispy chicken parmesan.

Popular items from the previous menu include surf and turf, mixed grill platter, chef's special mixed grill platter, chicken peri peri, and pepper sauce chicken meal.

For fresh salads, Segafredo offers seafood salad, tuna salad, creamy Italian salad, and beef salad.

In the seafood section, diners can enjoy fried prawn with bacon rice, red snapper fillet, grilled red snapper steak, lobster thermidor, and grilled salmon with salsa.

With its diverse and refined menu, Segafredo continues to redefine dining in Chattogram, offering a world-class experience in the heart of the city.
