Milestone tragedy: Grief clasps Sayan, Afnan's Lakshmipur homes
Families, relatives, locals mourn deaths of seventh-grade students

A wave of grief swept through the villages of Bashikpur and Sonapur in Lakshmipur as the tragic news of two young boys' deaths from Monday's training aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka reached their homes.
Sayan Yusuf and Afnan Fayaz, both seventh-grade students of the school, died after suffering severe burns when a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into their school building in Uttara.
Sayan, 14, succumbed to his injuries around 3:30am on today (22 July) at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Later, his body was brought to his ancestral home in Bashikpur village under Lakshmipur Sadar upazila around 12:45pm.
The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow as relatives, neighbours, and well-wishers gathered for his janaza, many struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.

At the grieving household, Sayan's mother Shamima Shammi, a chemistry teacher at the same school, and his grandmother Kamrun Nahar were inconsolable. His father, AFM Yusuf, an assistant professor at Milestone College, stood amid the mourners in silent devastation.
The family, who had been living in Uttara's Sector 10, now finds their home shattered by an unimaginable tragedy.
In the same tragic incident, another seventh-grader, Afnan Fayaz, also lost his life. Afnan hailed from the Rahimbax Haji Bari of Sonapur village in Parbotinagar Union, Lakshmipur Sadar. His funeral was held in Dhaka this morning, according to family sources.
Both children were inside the school when the aircraft came crashing down. The loss of two such young lives has plunged not just their families, but entire communities in Lakshmipur and beyond, into mourning.
What began as a normal school day ended in disaster, leaving two families forever altered in collective mourning.
