BRAC University Computer Club hosts Bit Battles 2025
The BRAC University Computer Club (BUCC), in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and powered by Phitron, hosted the final round of the intra-university programming contest 'Bit Battles 2025' on 18 July 2025. The event challenged the problem-solving skills of BRAC University's brightest coders in a competitive programming environment.
The competition was inaugurated by chief guest Dr Shahadatullah Khan, Founder and CEO of Progoti Systems, alongside special guests ASM Mainuddin Monem, CEO and Marketing Director of Abdul Monem Group; Dr Mohammad Kaykobad, Distinguished Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering; Abdur Rakib, COO of Phitron; Md Akhtaruzzaman Adnan, Senior Lecturer; and Arif Shakil, Lecturer and co-advisor of BUCC.
The problem set was developed by the top three competitive programming teams of BRAC University, including ICPC world finals participants Bracu Crows, under the guidance of Md Imran Bin Azad, Senior Lecturer of the Computer Science and Engineering Department.
The preliminary round was held online on 11 July 2025, with over 150 teams competing. The final round saw 90 top-scoring teams contesting at the BRAC University campus. The event commenced with participant registration at 8:30 AM, followed by the main contest starting at 9:30 AM, featuring algorithmic problems designed to test logical reasoning, analytical skills, and programming expertise.
After a lunch and prayer break, the Prize Giving Ceremony took place. Arman Ferdous, Competitive Programming Trainer at BRAC University, discussed the contest questions, while Md Akhtaruzzaman Adnan and Arif Shakil addressed the audience, congratulating organisers for the successful event. Abdur Rakib shared insights on problem-solving and the importance of such contests in developing future talent. Dr Kaykobad emphasised the power of intellectual effort as essential for national progress. ASM Mainuddin Monem highlighted Abdul Monem Group's commitment to national development and encouraged students to contribute meaningfully to society. Chief guest Dr Khan inspired attendees by sharing the story of Demis Hassabis, co-founder of DeepMind and Nobel laureate, underscoring persistence and curiosity in problem solving.
The BRAC University Computer Club's President, General Secretary, and Treasurer pledged to organise more intellectually enriching events. The first solvers for each problem were also recognised for their speed and accuracy.
Tokens of appreciation were presented to Team Phitron, Dr Kaykobad, Md Imran Bin Azad, Md Akhtaruzzaman Adnan, Arif Shakil, ASM Mainuddin Monem, and Dr Shahadatullah Khan.
Team Roaring Moon emerged as champions of Bit Battles 2025. Team Clumsy Chicken secured the first runners-up position, while Team Untitled finished second runners-up. Special recognition was given to intermediate-level student Desh Acharya for exceptional problem-solving skills.
The event concluded with a group photograph of the winners, organisers, and guests.
