Moushumi Hamid has entered the tenth year of her career in the glamour and entertainment world. She faced many ups and downs in her journey. Our correspondent visited the model and actress at her home in the capital's Uttara area recently to learn about the journey. She lives in an attic, and most of the roof is a garden.

The first question The Business Standard asked her was about her career's greatest achievement. Moushumi did not reply immediately. She strolled the garden and after a while she said, "Becoming Moushumi Hamid is the biggest achievement for me. I was an ordinary girl in a district town. Then I became Moushumi Hamid. People now know me. I have been working in the entertainment industry, and all these things are my greatest achievements."

Moushumi was naughty in her childhood. She used to mimic people. Seeing her talent in mimicry, many of her well-wishers suggested she take part in the Lux Channel i Superstar competition. It was 2010. She was studying for the higher secondary exam at a college in Khulna city. Since her family lived at Kaliganj in Satkhira, she used to live in a student mess in the city. She and one of her roommates gave an audition for the competition in Khulna, where TV actors Ahsanul Haque Nasim and Farhana Ruma were the judges. The main reason she participated in the audition was to get a chance to see big stars face to face.

However, Moushumi was selected. "Your eyes are beautiful and your height is good. You can be groomed," Nasim told Moushumi.  She was reminiscing about the beginning of her career. "I was bulky that time. Nasim bhai suggested that I drop carbohydrates from my diet. Based on his advice, I started eating only fruits and vegetables," said Moushumi.

Her family did not know about the audition, but when the day came to leave Khulna for Dhaka, she had to inform her family. Her mother and maternal uncle came forward to support her, and convinced her father by saying 'let her try.'
Her efforts were fruitful, and she qualified for the final round of the competition. She had been introduced to the world of glamour. In fact, this was the very first time that she wore jeans! She won the hearts of the judges and became the first runner-up.

She started her career as an actress in TV dramas, and later also worked in several movies with renown directors.

When asked whether she was grateful to anyone for her career, she said, "I had no idea about the industry when I came here." She acknowledged her debt to some people, especially directors of the industry who taught her about photo-shoots, modeling, acting and about the glamour world overall.

The first name she uttered was of actor Apurba. "I have never seen any man who is as positive minded as Apurba Bhai. He motivated me whenever we happened to meet. This motivation helped me get ahead in my career. I call him Power of Positivity," said Moushumi.

There was another person – Sumon Anwar – who helped her to learn acting, said Moushumi. "Actually, many people have contributed to the career of Moushumi Hamid," she added.

Moushumi, however, is frustrated over the current situation in the industry. She said all the people in the industry were connected like a family before. "Now all have become alienated from each other," she added. But she dreams of better days to come.

Towards the end of the conversation, she was asked about her love life. She said all her love affairs were painful, but the last one wounded her the most. "After the Lux episode of my life when I entered the media, I fell in love with a sound engineer. It was a deep love. But the relationship broke and the reason behind it hurt me the most. I was injured in a road accident while I was returning home from a shooting of a TV serial. The injury was to my face, and he left me for this reason, whereas he was supposed to stand by me at that time. However, I accepted it," Moushumi said.

In a response to the question whether people will remember Moushumi if she leaves the media now, she said after a pause, "Yes, people will not forget me because I am not a fake person. I am fun-loving and humorous. People will remember me for this reason at least."
