CA Press Wing Facts today (24 February) termed a daily Janakantha news report that claimed 72 rapes took place in the last 65 hours in the country as incorrect.

From its verified Facebook page, the Press Wing Facts said the news, published around 3:30pm on Monday (24 February), used a Facebook post as a source.

The Facebook post claimed that various screenshots of old news on incidents that occurred in 65 hours were taken to prepare the news report, which is not true, said the press wing facts.

"It is unexpected and undesirable to spread exaggerated information and false statistics about a serious crime like rape, it creates confusion in the public mind. The interim government is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice in every rape incident committed in the country," it said.
