Schoolgirl 'dragged from home, gang-raped' in Faridpur; two held
Police say they have received a written complaint after locals detained two suspects.

An eighth grader was allegedly abducted from her home and gang-raped in Faridpur's Sadarpur upazila after a group of assailants forcibly entered the house, police and family members said.
The incident took place at around 1:00am yesterday (31 July) in a village under Bhasanchar union.

However, local residents later detained two suspects along with a motorcycle and handed them over to police, confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Shamsul Azam.
The detainees were identified as Helal Mridha, 20, and Rais Sikdar, 16.
According to the victim's uncle, he and the girl's mother were at a hospital in Faridpur for the victim's grandmother's eye treatment on the night of the incident. The girl was at home with her younger brother and sister.
He alleged that a group of 10 to 15 armed men surrounded the house and demanded that the door be opened.
When those inside refused, the attackers allegedly broke a window and forcibly dragged the girl from the house.
He further alleged that when relatives and neighbours tried to intervene, the assailants threatened them with violence.
The girl was then allegedly taken by motorcycle to a pond embankment in a neighbouring village, where three men violated her in turn.
According to local residents, the girl became seriously ill at around 3:00am. The suspects allegedly left her in the courtyard of her home before attempting to flee.
Residents chased them, detained two suspects along with a motorcycle after assaulting them, and later handed them over to Sadarpur Police Station.
The victim's mother said, "I was at the hospital for my mother-in-law's operation. When I returned and saw my daughter's condition, I was speechless. She was taken from our home. I want the maximum punishment for everyone involved."
The victim's younger sister alleged that the attackers entered the house by breaking a window and dragged her sister away by the hair.
The police official Shamsul Azam said police had received a written complaint.
"The matter is being investigated with the highest priority, and legal proceedings are underway. The two people detained by locals and handed over to police remain in police custody," he said.
