Women's football and martial arts showcase in cox's bazar
To mark the sixteen Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women, ActionAid Bangladesh organised a friendly women's football match and martial arts demonstration at Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium in Cox's Bazar on Saturday, 30 November.
The event was graced by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Yamin Hossain, as the chief guest. Special guests included Md. Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police of Cox's Bazar; Yoko Akasaka, Head of the UNHCR Sub-Office in Cox's Bazar; and Farah Kabir, Country Director of ActionAid Bangladesh.
The event commenced at 3 pm, and the District Commissioner inaugurated the proceedings with the national anthem and a symbolic balloon release. Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Salahuddin highlighted the urgent need for everyone to join efforts in preventing violence against women. He remarked, "We must all come together to prevent violence against women. United, we can create a fair and harmonious society free from violence." He also expressed his appreciation for the participating players.

In her welcome address, Farah Kabir, Country Director of ActionAid Bangladesh, emphasised the importance of empowering women and eliminating gender-based violence. She urged everyone to stand against discrimination and work towards ensuring equal rights for women in all aspects of life.
This was followed by an exciting football match featuring the women's teams of Cox's Bazar District Football Academy and Ramu. Hundreds of spectators from across the district cheered on the players in the 50-minute match, which saw Ramu Women's Football Team secure a one-zero victory.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where the guests congratulated both teams and presented them with trophies in recognition of their efforts.
Among those in attendance were Mahbubur Rahman, President of Cox's Bazar Press Club; Main Uddin Milky, Sports Officer of Cox's Bazar; and representatives from the United Nations and various international NGOs.
Notably, the sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign observed each year from November 25 to December 10. This campaign aims to raise awareness about violence against women and encourage everyone to act for change. Through this event, ActionAid Bangladesh has worked to strengthen women's empowerment by promoting equal opportunities and advocating for the elimination of violence against women. We are committed to building a society where every woman can live with dignity, free from fear and violence.
