UN Road Safety Week: Yamaha riders club takes the Lead

Safe roads are an essential issue in today's world. Whether pedestrians or drivers, everyone is concerned about road safety. To ensure this, the government has also taken various initiatives.

The UN Global Road Safety Week is observed worldwide every two years under the guidelines of the United Nations, and Bangladesh is no exception. Both government and non-government organisations undertake a range of activities during this week. While many organisations are actively working during this time in Bangladesh, the Yamaha Riders Club has taken a unique approach.

Yamaha Riders Club is a community of motorcycle riders who participate in biking activities and various social awareness campaigns. The club has over 15,000 registered members nationwide. During the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent floods in Feni and Sylhet, they were among the first to reach the affected people with aid. Last year, the club planted around 25,000 trees nationwide to combat extreme heat.

Let's look at their plan for this year's Global Road Safety Week. Under a campaign titled "Safe Road, Safe Ride," the club has taken up activities in about 55 districts, including repainting speed breakers and zebra crossings, repairing damaged road signs, displaying awareness placards, and conducting various road safety-related initiatives.

The club believes that the government alone cannot solve all the problems—a combined effort from all levels of society is essential to ensure road safety for everyone.
