State University of Bangladesh (SUB) celebrates World Food Day 2024

State University of Bangladesh (SUB) celebrates World Food Day 2024

The Department of Food Engineering and Nutrition Science (FENS) at the State University of Bangladesh (SUB) proudly celebrated World Food Day 2024 at its permanent campus in South Purbachal, Dhaka. The event, held under the theme "Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future," aimed to raise awareness about the importance of access to nutritious food for a healthier life and a sustainable future.

The celebration included a range of activities such as a rally, seminar, thematic poster presentations, awards distribution, and a cultural program. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Khaleda Islam, Professor and former Director, Institute of Nutrition and Food Science (INFS), University of Dhaka.

Professor Dr. Nawzia Yasmin, Acting Vice Chancellor, SUB, attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Chief of Party, BPSD, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), served as the Guest of Honor. The program was chaired by Dr. M. Shafiur Rahman, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of FENS, SUB.

In her keynote presentation, Dr. Khaleda Islam emphasized the significance of nutritious and balanced diets in promoting public health. Professor Dr. Nawzia Yasmin and Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam also highlighted the importance of ensuring access to wholesome foods to foster a healthier nation, stressing the collective responsibility to uphold food rights, especially for vulnerable groups.

Approximately 300 participants, including students, faculty members, FENS alumni, staff, and invited guests, attended the event. The Department of FENS expressed its gratitude to Suoxi Hospital and Coca-Cola, the official sponsor partners, for their generous support in making the event a success.

The Department also extends its thanks to all participants and contributors for their efforts in ensuring the successful celebration of World Food Day 2024.
