State University of Bangladesh to confer degrees at 7th convocation
The seventh convocation of State University of Bangladesh (SUB) will be held tomorrow, Sunday, 21 December, in a festive and colourful atmosphere at the university's permanent campus in Purbachal New Town.
At the convocation, a total of 672 graduates from 10 departments will receive undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. In addition, three students will receive the Chancellor's Gold Medal, four students the Vice-Chancellor's Silver Medal, and 20 students the Deans' Award.
As the representative of the chancellor and the president of the country, Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Professor Dr Asif Nazrul will preside over the convocation. University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr SMA Fayez will attend as the convocation speaker, while UGC Member Professor Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossain will be present as a special guest.
The welcome address will be delivered by Vice-Chancellor of State University of Bangladesh Professor Dr Md Akhtar Hossain Khan. Speeches will also be delivered by President of the Board of Trustees Dr AM Shamim, Vice-President Dr Md Mahbubur Rahman, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nowzia Yasmin, and deans of various faculties.
On the occasion, members of the syndicate and academic council, faculty members and graduates will enter through the main gate at 11:00am and take part in the convocation procession. A cultural programme has been scheduled in the evening following the day-long convocation ceremony.
Students, faculty members, alumni, registered graduates, vice-chancellors of different universities, members of syndicates and academic councils, military and civil officials, media personalities and other distinguished guests will attend the programme.
Established in 2002, State University of Bangladesh is now one of the country's leading private universities. More than 15,000 graduates have received degrees through six previous convocations, with the most recent one held in 2022.
Although the convocation will take place tomorrow, the campus has been in a festive mood for several days, with graduates in gowns and caps taking photographs, sharing memories and celebrating across the green and vibrant campus.
