Sony-Smart eye camp provides free eye care to 2,000 patients

More than 2,000 patients received free eye treatment and cataract surgery services at a two-day eye treatment program organised by the public welfare organisation Smart Foundation in Ramganj, Lakshmipur.
The 'Sony-Smart Eye Care Camp' free-eye-care program was held on Sunday and Monday (February 16 and 17) in collaboration with Smart Electronics Limited (Sony-Smart), Japanese Sony's official distributor in Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital.
According to the organisers, patients are provided with free eye examinations, necessary medicines, and glasses daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Moreover, free cataract surgery using foreign soft lenses using the PHACO method is provided, including transportation to Dhaka and accommodation and food in the hospital for the selected patients.
'Your vision, our responsibility! See brightly, with Sony-Smart.' --- With this slogan, Mr Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Secretary General of Smart Foundation and Managing Director of Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd., inaugurated the eye-care program on Sunday morning.
Among others, Mr. Ricky Lucas, Head of Sony International (Pvt.) Ltd. Bangladesh Branch, Mr Md. Nur Uddin Bhuiyan, Principal of Ramganj Model Degree College, Mr Debbrata Das, Ramganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land), Mr Md. Tanvir Hossain, Director of Sony-Smart, Mr Muhammad Kamrul Islam Sanjid, General Manager of Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital, Mr Azad Rahman, Deputy General Manager and Head of Marketing of Sony-Smart, and representatives from various professions were present.
As the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, Mr Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Secretary General of Smart Foundation and Managing Director of Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd., said, "'Smart Foundation' is a completely public welfare organisation. Its main goal and objective is to improve the quality of life and ensure the welfare of the people of my birthplace, Ramganj, Lakshmipur.
As you know, through Smart Foundation, we have been standing by the people of different levels of society for a long time and are walking on the path of realising the dream of building Bangladesh, taking everyone on board. In the past, we have also organised various types of healthcare programmes. Every year, we bring expert doctors from Turkey and arrange free circumcision with modern technology for children of this region. Continuing this, we have organised a two-day free eye care program. We want to undertake more such public welfare programs in the coming days. With everyone's cooperation, we want to play the highest role in building Bangladesh, especially an enlightened and prosperous Lakshmipur."
