MTB Foundation honours Milestone fire heroes with Bravery Award
MTB Foundation has presented its 15th Bravery and Courage Award posthumously to Maherin Chowdhury, Mashuka Begum, Mahfuza Khatun, and Masuma Begum — four teachers who lost their lives while rescuing students during the tragic fire at Milestone School and College on 21 July 2025.
Their extraordinary courage and selflessness prevented a far greater loss of life and stand as a lasting testament to bravery and maternal devotion.
A simple ceremony was held at MTB Centre, the bank's corporate head office in Gulshan-1, Dhaka, where special crests and cheques were handed over to the victims' families.
The event was attended by Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury, MTB Group Chairman; Khwaja Nargis Hossain, Director; Shib Narayan Kairy, Independent Director; Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director and CEO; Chowdhury Akhtar Asif, AMD and GCRO; Rais Uddin Ahmad, DMD and CAMLCO of Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB); and Samia Chowdhury, CEO of MTB Foundation.
Introduced in 2012, the MTB Bravery and Courage Award recognises acts of heroism and honours individuals or families who demonstrate exceptional courage and self-sacrifice in the service of others.
