KOICA and BBS launch $9.65 million initiative to modernize statistical services
KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), the Republic of Korea's leading development agency, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), has launched the $9.65 million "Capacity Development of Statistics Service Based on Platform" project. This initiative, aimed at modernizing Bangladesh's national statistical system, integrates advanced ICT technologies to enhance data management and analysis.
The project will empower BBS to improve the efficiency and accuracy of its data collection, management, and analysis, contributing to informed decision-making and evidence-based policymaking. This aligns with Bangladesh's Digital vision and its pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Key components of the project include the development of a strategic master plan for modernizing the national statistical services, the design and construction of a centralized data warehouse platform for seamless data storage and analysis, and the upgrading of ICT infrastructure to provide BBS with advanced tools for better data collection and processing. The project also includes a capacity enhancement program that offers comprehensive training for BBS staff to ensure the effective use and sustainability of the new systems and technologies.
Mr. Taeyoung Kim, KOICA Country Director in Bangladesh, stated, "By enhancing BBS's capabilities, we are investing in the long-term development of Bangladesh's statistical infrastructure, vital for achieving the SDGs and realizing Digital Bangladesh."
This project will directly contribute to improved policymaking, transparency, and inclusive governance, ensuring that Bangladesh's statistical services meet the growing demands of a data-driven future.
