Internet service may slow during SEA-ME-WE-5 maintenance
Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) has announced that essential maintenance, titled 'S.1.5.1 Shunt Fault Repair', will be undertaken by the SEA-ME-WE-5 (SMW5) submarine cable consortium at Kuakata.
The SMW5 consortium stated that the maintenance will occur from 10:00pm on 9 April to 6:00am on 13 April 2026 (Bangladesh time), spanning three days and eight hours.
During this period, circuits routed through the SMW5 cable towards Singapore may experience temporary disruption. Internet users could face reduced speeds or partial service interruptions.
BSCPLC assured that connectivity via its alternative cable, SEA-ME-WE-4 (SMW4), will remain fully operational throughout the maintenance.
The company added that every effort will be made, in coordination with the consortium, to expedite completion and restore normal service within the scheduled window.
BSCPLC apologised for any temporary inconvenience caused to customers and stakeholders.
