DUET starts upward extension work of Bijoy 24 hall
Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur, has inaugurated the upward extension of Bijoy 24 Hall under the M-DUET project, aiming to expand student accommodation at its second campus.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Joynal Abedin formally inaugurated the extension as chief guest, according to a press release.
Speaking at the event, the vice-chancellor noted that the M-DUET project is the largest in the university's history. The initiative, he said, was approved to modernise research laboratories, strengthen institutional capacity, and develop infrastructure essential for DUET's long-term growth. He emphasised that measures have been taken since the project's approval to ensure effective implementation through accountability, transparency, and adherence to government regulations.
He added that the project would enhance student accommodation and further reinforce DUET's role in engineering and technology education.
Special guest Professor Dr Md Arefin Kawsar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of DUET, remarked that securing a project is easier than ensuring its successful implementation. He expressed confidence that the university would complete the M-DUET project with sincerity and responsibility.
The programme was chaired by Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim, M-DUET Project Director. Attendees included faculty from various departments, students, engineers and contractors involved in the project, the khatib of the central mosque, as well as university officials and staff.
Previously, under the same project, DUET inaugurated the upward extension of the tower building on the main campus to expand accommodation for teachers. Prior to that, a cycle shed was opened beside Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall for students. The university stated that these facilities would make campus life more convenient and improve the security of students' vehicles.
