IBCF raises excise duty issue on trade finance with NBR
A delegation led by Khaja Shahriar, Chairman of the Islamic Banks Consultative Forum (IBCF), met the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue on 26 January 2026.
The meeting was held at the National Revenue Bhaban in Agargaon, where the delegation discussed in detail the existing disparity between conventional banking and Islamic banking in the calculation of excise duty on trade facility loans and investment facilities.
Officials of the National Board of Revenue listened attentively to the issues raised and assured the delegation that necessary steps would be taken to address the matter within the existing legal framework.
NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan attended the meeting, along with senior NBR officials, including AKM Badiul Alam, Member (Tax Legal and Enforcement); Ahsan Habib, Director General of CIC; and Md Mashiur Rahman from VAT Policy.
Members of the delegation included Professor Dr M Zubaidur Rahman, Chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC; Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, Managing Director of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC; Md Omar Faruk Khan, Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC; Rafat Ullah Khan, Managing Director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC; Nurul Islam Khalifa, IBCF Honorary Secretary; Md Siddiqur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director of Standard Bank PLC; M Nazim A Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director of Prime Bank PLC; and Jahangir Alam, IBCF Assistant Secretary.
