Govt committed to protecting religious freedom, communal harmony: Minister
Bangladesh is steadfast in safeguarding the religious freedom of all citizens and upholding communal harmony nationwide, Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid said today.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the traditional Ratha Yatra festival of the Hindu community in Cumilla this afternoon.
"Bangladesh has long been a land of communal harmony. Cumilla, too, has a rich history of peaceful coexistence among Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and Christian communities," said the minister.
The minister noted that certain vested groups have historically attempted to create communal divisions but have failed due to public vigilance.
"We believe no one will succeed in disrupting our communal harmony in the future. Just as our ancestors lived together with mutual respect and affection, we must ensure a peaceful and harmonious Bangladesh for future generations," he added.
He further stated that no religion supports injustice, and every faith promotes justice, human welfare and peace.
"Religion should not be used as a tool for division. It must unite us through shared human values and harmony," he said.
Appreciating the participation of the local Hindu community and members of the public, Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid said the large turnout and orderly organisation of the festival reflected increasing mutual trust and fraternity.
He urged people from all communities to uphold tolerance, harmony and mutual respect to help build a non-sectarian, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.
Administrator of Cumilla City Corporation Md Yousuf Molla Tipu; Chairman of Cumilla Development Authority, Udbatul Bari Abu; Deputy Commissioner of Cumilla, Rozy Akter; Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman, PPM-Seba; and Cumilla Adarsha Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Fatema Tuz Johra, attended the event.
Prominent Hindu community leaders and devotees were also present at the event.
